I love this trail. I usually walk this trail, but I did a jog few days ago and I liked it even better. It have different sections, some are just straight and easy, other steep and a little challenging.
I'm not too comfortable running on snow, in my opinion the best time to go is between Spring and Fall. Because of altitude it can be pretty cool some times, it's good idea to be prepared.
Have in mind that you will find some high drops sections during the trail, just in case you take your kids but is mostly easy.
Most of the way is steep but pretty smooth and kid friendly. Only a little bit of rocks but we went with some toddlers and they did great! We took the short trail.
Always a great little hike. I would rate it easy for the avid hiker, moderate for the occasional hiker. You will appreciate good shoes on this hike in the summer as there is lots of loose rock and dirt with steep inclines. Starts out with full sun, then transitions into mostly shade about a 1/4 of the way in. The waterfall is work the climb.
This is one’s a challenge for the legs! Lots of rocks so wear good shoes. I find sandals a bit uncomfortable on this trail. The first part of the hike is in the sun as you hit some switchbacks to get to the mouth of the canyon where the creek flows from. It’s much cooler and shaded from this point on. The Waterfall is absolutely worth the effort.
This hike is well defined by others so I'm sharing my pov. Well maintained trail with adequate signage. Wish there was more available trail parking spots. Hike was definitely moderate and adventurous. Shade is amazing on a hot day. Plenty of spots to play in the water along the route. My kids ages 8, 5, and 4 all did the majority of the hike independently, needing assistance over large rocks. Beautiful waterfall and wildlife.
