Herkimer Diamond Mines Resort

Always a good time at Herkimer Diamond Mines.nThis is the second time I've been to Herkimer Diamond Mines. We went the last week of the season this year and were a bit disappointed that Mines 2 & 3 were closed off, leaving us with only Mine 1.nMine 3 (furthest mine back), was where was 'struck gold' last year- it was less picked over and some the larger chiseled out rocks that were in block form were in piles near the rock ledge. When turned over, they had large pockets and diamonds in them.nA hammer is given to you with admission, but I would recommend bringing your own smaller chisel and hammer with a smaller head for better results. Otherwise, you get tired quickly with little fulfilled.nThe facilities themselves are very new and offer a lot of selection as far as the cafe, gift shop, restrooms, and sleuths.nThe restrooms could have used some cleaning, but overall the property was well-kept. The mines are great for the whole family.

I got to live one of my childhood dreams with my own family. It was a fun and fascinating place for sure! There were sparkles everywhere! It was all we could do to keep our kids from bringing home 100 pounds of rocks. The displays and store was wonderful!

Cool family friendly mining experience. Great shop and scenery. I recommend doing sluice bags. You'll get a decent amount of small high quality diamonds that way. As far as mining, you only get a small hammer with admission which isn't enough to do much but its enough to smash what's laying around...which are pretty much just small dolostone rocks, nothing too impressive. I didn't find many diamonds, and the ones I did find were tiny. If you wanna do some serious work, bring your own hammer and chisel. Bring safety glasses too because there are lots of people around and fragments fly. If you're a jeweler looking for the best diamonds or looking for great herkimer diamond jewelry then this store is the place to go! Very helpful staff, great jewelry selection, and the best quality herkimers. 3stars for the mine 4stars for the shop, panning, attractions, restaurant!

This was such a fun experience! The owner went above and beyond to make my sons feel special on their birthday! They are still talking about how much fun we had! All the workers were just fantastic too! Can’t wait to go back!

So much fun! Pretty much a big rock pit. You can hammer at the walls, smash rocks found on the ground, or even comb through the dirt. Dont be fooled, it dirty and sweaty, but we found Herkimer Diamonds, which are special quartz. I came home happy with my sparkly haul. They will lend a hammer, but I recommend bringing a chisel, small shovel, or other hand tools. Staff was very nice and informative.
