I was represented by Attorney Collins for an assault charge. We met once before my court date. I paid $1000 fee. This is my only experience with the criminal court system. I was not prepared for a trial that day. Attorney Collins seemed amused by my anxiety and pushed me to take a plea bargain that would have left me with a criminal record. Fortunately the prosecutor decided to have the case continued with prejudice for six months. I thought I would be free and clear (this was all part of a difficult divorce). When I proceeded with the divorce a few months later my ex spouse was able to reopen the charge despite the fact that we had no contact and there was no evidence of assault or harassment. I hired a new attorney, went to trial by judge and was acquitted. Because of Attorney Susan Collins lack luster representation my children almost ended up in the care of my mentally ill exspouse. I have no doubt Social Services would’ve taking my children if they were in their mothers care. In my opinion Attorney Susan Collins is a grossly negligent.
