Be prepared! Owls Head is an 18.5 mile hike. 16 of those miles are nearly flat. That means toy go up to the 4026 foot summit in just over a mile. The trail up is slick and rocky. And we loved it. You walk along rivers, through the woods and by a wonderful lake. Enjoy!

The trails are a bit dicey a bit easy to get turned around and the slide is a challange with a few water crossings no view from the summit only view from slide and down trees near summit to crawl under or climb over 18.2 mi rt made it feel even longer in the end but hiked for #7 of my 48 13 hrs later I can say I finished.

This hike was unnecessarily long and there is no view at the summit! Other than that I have no bad feelings about it.

Perfect winter picnic spot ;-)

Owls head is a long hike for little reward. After the wilderness boundary the trails are not maintained to a high standard and are very secluded. This is a good thing for me, but not everyone. The primary reason this mountain is climbed is because it is on the New Hapshire 4000 footer list. There is a limited view up to the Franconia Range from the slide which is rather interesting but the summit is heavily forested. If it had a bald summit, Owls Head would be one of the finest hikes in the White Mountians but it does not so it is mediocre at best.
