100% the best men’s haircut around Yale! I have been coming here since 2015, and they have been so amazing. Great haircuts, affordable, and full service! Convenient location in east rock, family-run, with talented stylists. Nice covid precautions with appointments, masks, sanitizing, and single use supplies. I’m moving on from New Haven, but I will miss this place the most!
Universal is the best hair salon I’ve ever been to. The haircut is always exactly how I want, and she asks me throughout the cut if I want it any differently. She takes her time and makes sure it’s as good as it can be. 10/10 hair cuts. I tell all my friends about this place.
Found this salon while looking at a bunch of places online, so happy I Chose to try this one! Have been going since 2014 now and I’m loving my hair every single time. Really take the time to listen and understand what I want at that appointment. Everyone is so nice and the atmosphere is just honestly the best!
The cuts are cheap and the stylists kind, but it is difficult to fine-tune what you want. This might be due to a [English-Spanish] language barrier, but it's also possible that the stylists give only what you ask for without opinions. This shop is not busy: I have never (since arriving in New Haven during covid) waited for a haircut.
The only thing I can say about my experience here is that she got my eyebrows done correctly. I've been here about 3 or 4 times and the first time I got my hair done it was not done the way I told her. The second time (different girl) did a good job, but my last experience was terrible. I told the girl (not sure of her name) not to shave my hair but cut it with the scissors, what was the first thing she did????? Zip all my hair off with the shaver! Either they don't understand English or she just wanted to do what she wanted. I will NEVER come back here ever again.
