Lake Powhatan Recreation Area & Campground

I love it here

The campsites were great, secluded, and wooded. Facilities were very clean. Lots of trails around the lake. Beautiful area and close to town for some brewery hopping.

My wife and I enjoy Lake Powhatan. We most recently stayed from 11/25/20 - 11/29/20. The sites are spacious and much more secluded than many private owned campgrounds or state parks. The facilities are very well maintained, and there is plenty of outdoor recreation available, especially hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. We found the hosts to be very helpful and cordial. They can be seen riding throughout the campground often, and they are always willing to answer questions or lend a helping hand. Firewood is available within the campground, and shopping and groceries are within 5 miles of the park. Full hookups are available in the Lakeside Loop only. Internet service is nearly non-existent in the Lakeside Loop, but I can't speak for the other loops. It is likely that they are the same, since most of the park has no service. We will be looking forward to our third trip to Lake Powhatan in 2021.

We only spent the night there but the RV campground is really nice. We had a great pull-through site. Hookups were easy. Park is lovely and the folks running it were friendly and helpful. It feels like it's way out in the country but in truth it's not too far from central Asheville (maybe twenty minutes?). Would be happy to stay there again if we find ourselves again in that part of the country.

Stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed it. Comfortable sights, clean bathrooms and close to great hiking. Just wish they could have let us know beforehand that they wouldn't have firewood. Overall a great spot.
