Le Languedoc Bistro

Great place in Nantucket with authentic southern French cuisine. Came here with my wife and my in-laws and was not disappointed in the least. Our waiter was incredibly accommodating considering we did not have any reservations, and even gave us free wine and dessert dishes ! The duck confit was delicious, and the steak fries was a favourite as well. Would definitely recommend and it was such a pleasure coming!

The food was superb! Anthony, the chef, prepared one of the tastiest, and most colorful dishes of tender succulent sweet breads I had ever enjoyed; accompanied with long exotic strands of Spanish saffron, snow pea sprouts, sweet baby yellow cherry tomatoes and a lovely arugula risotto! I also had a superbly designed appetizer of bone marrow, pate, and veal tongue, adorned with an ample amount of pistachio-bing cherry chutney. We sat outside on the garden patio with lovely blue and white checkered tablecloths. But, the night was ruined and so was my memory of what should have been a wonderful time. Previously, I phoned the restaurant 3 times. Each time getting a very inelegant receptionist. (I had to change my reservation to a different day and number of guests I would be dining with.) I was crudely rebuffed and felt peculiarly uninvited. I heard of the “Ugly American” but I wouldn’t expect a lovely restaurant (with intimations of French culture) to allow such a crude/rude attitude to guide their establishment. My worst fears were realized when the hostess not only was ungracious to us as we sat on the outside sidewalk bench waiting for the restaurant to open up, but handed the menus to us gruffly with no smiles and no warmth. She quipped the first question: “Can I get you anything to drink?” I answered: “A glass of ease and grace would be appreciated.” She walked away to gossip to another hostess. Leaving me and my party alone for what seemed an eternity. Finally, we had a gentlemanly water server wait on us. But I will never return here again until the “Ugly American” spirit is absolved front and center!

Excellent food and a nice atmosphere. A quiet French restaurant for any occasion!
