Island Lava Java

This place is definitely nice. There's plenty of outdoor seating (waterfront). The people were personable and they got our food out to us in a timely manner in spite of having plenty of other customers. They had a rewards program that was easy and quick for me to join. Their prices weren't ridiculous and we were even able to get a 25% discount on our entrees because of their Happy Hour Special.nnThey seemed to be doing a great job during the pandemic: all the employees did well with keeping their masks on, we had the ability to order our food from our phones and pay the bill from our phones as well, so that more of of the exchanges between us and the restaurant would be contactless, if we wanted to do so.nnI tasted the Veggie Bowl, the Lava Java Salad, the Tomato and Mushroom Soup (soup of the day), and the Sweet Potato Fries. Every plate had a violet (an edible flower) placed on it. Everything was great except for the soup which isn't worth getting, in my opinion. My favorite was the Veggie Bowl.nnI didn't take a look inside or go to the bathroom but the place seemed clean in general.nnWill definitely be back to try breakfast another time.

Best breakfast on Big Island. Saw a line one morning and figured it was worth the wait. Returned every morning of my stay. The food is excellent and plating is picture perfect. Service was impeccable. Tried many of their specialties. My favorite was the macadamia banana pancakes with coconut syrup.

The staff at Island Lava Java are very professional, attentive to customers, knowledgeable about the menu and have positive attitudes. Always great when they have live music jam sessions. And you just can't beat having a delicious meal with views of the ocean. Island Lava Java is always busy, so consider making a reservation. Highly recommend the fish tacos and/or salads!!!

If there is a hint of rain, ask to be indoors. The umbrellas leak. The hostess told us someone else was sitting in our reserved table so she gave us a smaller table. Then it began to rain and our table got wet. When the people in our reserved table left we asked to sit there and was told it was reserved for someone else. Our waiter was great! He was a parolee and got us the table we requested and got us a 15% discount for being first responders.nThe food was delicious. I had the New York strip steak which tasted great and was cooked to my doneness. My only complaint was it was 1/3 fat. My husband had a burger which he loved with steak fried. It’s great that this place gives ex prisoners a chance to work and do well!

A great brunch spot (personal favorite is eggs benedict) with an incredible ocean view! Prices are reasonable and there's free parking nearby with fun shops and cafes around. Service is great and staff are very helpful and friendly—definitely recommend!nnTip: Make sure to go on Sunday as brunch is served all day.
