Love this area and the people are so nice. Everything is expensive out there but you are supporting their small town. I come here at least once a year and enjoy it my entire weekend. It's very relaxing.
Going through the canyons by what ever means of transportation, boat, raft,auto or by foot , it's a, there's really no adequate way to describe in words. Breathtaking comes close ud83dude0d. I travel through the canyon almost daily,shuttling cars to the take out point,and I still go WOW!
Out in the middle of nowhere... Ok, so maybe it's only 10 miles from Maupin, but coming from Portland seems like nowhwere, is the first boat launch below Sherar's Falls. The launch is pretty decent as it does feature restrooms up by the road which I found to be exceptionally clean.nnThe river from here down is pretty easy going. There is exceptional fishing opportunities, but the trout aren't as big as they are above Sherar's, IMO.nnThe road along the Deschutes River is extremely washboarded. It's nasty and, well, broke my 4x4 (broke a control arm and ball joints too!)
