After the horrible experience at the visitor center, we almost didn't stop, but my kids were hungry. I am SO glad we did. The food was awesome, and the server in the cafe was absolutely wonderful. The experience was the exact opposite from what we met at the visitor center. She was sweet, polite, and excited about us being from out of state. She showed my kids their old coal burning furnace and chunks of real coal. Honestly, none of us had ever seen it before as we are from the south and they are not common down here. Also, we use charcoal brickettes or wood for BBQ/smoking, but not coal like from the mountains. She explained some of the history of the area and how it was currently off season. She suggested some places to go for my kids to go sledding. Then she told us about the old abandoned mining town (I think she called it Eureka) that was just 15 min further up the road and suggested we visit it. We did and it was so much fun! If we get to go back to CO, I will definitely be stopping by this cafe.

Tried to eat here, came in with a large party and sat down at an open table. Waitress was rude and made the entire party get up and go outside while she “wiped the table off”. Was not busy at all. Can’t speak to how the food was, but the service was absolutely terrible. With COVID hurting local restaurants this experience was discouraging. Promptly left and went to the Brown Bear Cafe down the street where we were treated great!

Love this cafe...best breakfast in town. The breakfast burrito is the best I've ever had. Get it covered with the green chile gravy! And when I need a little change, the French toast never disappoints!

YUM!!! If you are in a hurry, don't come here. It appears to be a two person team -- a server and a chef -- and they do their best to keep up. The wait is worth it if you have the time. I brought my dog and wanted to order breakfast to go. The server told me I could sit outside. So glad I did. Great views and the hot coffee took the chill off the morning. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it came with home fries and a side of green chili. Probably the best breakfast burrito and home fries I've ever had (and PHX has some good ones). The service was great as well. Thank you -- from me and my dog!
