We started at the Bear Mountain bridge toll house, ended up the bear Mountain bridge outlook. It took us around 4 hours up and back. I rated the trail as difficult, specifically at the beginning, you have to claim through rocks. But there is a small park lot ( only for 3-4 cars) in the half of the trail, you can park the car there, and the rest of the trail will be much easier than the first half. However, you'll miss many beautiful scenic views. Most of the people start halfway, so you also have to hike with crowds. Finally, stay on the trails, follow the blue mark, don't cross the border. There is New York State military live firing range is nearby the trail.
Used the Camp Smith Trail to hike to Anthony's Nose. This route is about 7 miles round trip. Not many people start from this location so it's pretty quiet for awhile. I lost the trail a couple of times but after looking around for a minute found it again with the help of the blue trail markers. There's a lot of ascents and descents and much of the trail is rocky so don't recommend it for all ages or fitness levels. The views of the river and mountains on the other side are awesome, especially once you get to Anthony's Nose. There is very limited parking at the trailhead so if you want to start from this spot, arrive early on the weekend.
Great Experience!! Rocky and steep but views are breathtaking and well worth the climb!
Excellent place! Trail has many beautiful views.
A bit narrow but well made stony trail with views most of the way.
