The organizers behind this institute treat its development as a pet project and it shows. In all honesty, I am uncomfortable calling this place a mosque because it fails to function as one. That reminds me of an old colloquialism most appropriate to its functioning: looks are deceiving. There is a chronic lack of leadership riddled with disorganization. Nobody seems to know which way the wind is blowing let alone its source. The organizers show exclusive interest in their own authoritative decrees with little to no concern about critical feedback. Here is a suggestion: why not experiment with the implementation of an open door policy from one fixed time to another for mosque goers? One reoccurring problem faced by this particular mosque is that more often than not, it is simply closed most of the time.nnIn comparison, the Al-Rahman Mosque in Bloomington is largely accessible and its community has been around much longer. Do the organizers fear vandalism in the name of Islamophobia? Or does its operational openness stem from a reluctance to foot higher utility bills? This creates a great problem because it suggests an off-limits perception to the general public which is hardly welcoming. Yet, rest assured! The fact there are two large posters prominently displayed in the window condemning radicalism and extremism is supposedly suggestive of proactive communal inclusiveness. Why not produce a flier that underscores the peace loving nature of Islam to the surrounding community? This undertaking can be achieved by mailing fliers en-masse using compact Quranic passages for eye-catching brevity. This could be a great outlet for creative Arabic calligraphy!nnAs a Muslim, I have this remaining concern: Muslim-Americans in the Twin Cities lack the most basic form of community. What services can we offer to ourselves in addition to the rest of the Non-Muslim community to demonstrate our role in it? There are individuals out there operating on good intentions, but good intentions alone do little to effectuate change in the name of refined proactivity. Compare the services of the average mosque in the Twin Cities to local churches or synagogues. As a community, our greatest flaw is found in our disorganization because it seems in more ways than one, each community wants to run its own show for exclusive purposes. As a direct result, Islamic communities in Minnesota continue to develop in isolation of each other because they fail to effectively collaborate.nnHow much longer will it take to develop a comprehensive community that can adequately produce solutions for the resolution of its existential problems?

Other than Friday prayers, you cannot be sure if it's open for other prayers. You just have to go there to find out, sometimes it might be open, and sometimes not. It's a matter of luck.
