To be honest I've never camped here, or ever been here in the Summer. I only go in the Winter when it becomes Dog Park. Dogs can run free and play with other dogs as you walk the campground. In the Spring, the dog owners have a weekend where they show up and pick up any errant messes that may have been missed over the Winter, and Tourist Park opens again. It's a very cool use of the park that would otherwise sit dormant. Our dog passed about 10 months ago and while we're not ready for another dog yet, it's fun to come here and see/interact with the dogs. Do it, it'll make you happy.

I have camped there for many years. They have very nice showers and it's a beautiful lake to go swimming in. The rates are affordable. Bring your kayak and your bicycles because there's lots of bike trails and you can kayak in the Dead River. It's always very calm.

Very convenient to the city of Marquette and its lakeshore parks/trails. There’s a nice swimming beach right at the campground if you enjoy slightly warmer water than Lake Superior.nnStreetlights throughout the campground make nights uncomfortably bright here for tent campers seeking a rustic experience. Some sites are worse than others in this respect. I understand this is within a city, but the degree of lighting they’ve provided is completely unnecessary and detracts from the experience.nnBathrooms that looked rundown several years ago appeared nicely renovated this season. There still aren’t many showers considering the capacity of the campground, but I never had a problem finding one available.nnFew if any other cities in the country are lucky enough to have a municipally-owned campground this nice nestled in such dynamic scenery. I’d pick this over a private campground any day.nnThe Marquette region’s demand for tent campsites far exceeds supply, so book well in advance. Unless you’re willing to drive out from the city as far as Van Riper State Park (35 mins), you won’t find many other options, aside from RV parks lacking in character and scenery.nnThis park could probably be twice the size and still fill to capacity over summer. Hats off to Marquette for keeping this in public ownership as part of their park system and maintaining the great experience for visitors.
