Stayed for a week in their cabin and LOVED IT!!! Cant wait go back.
It is a beautiful campground and one of our favorites. That being said, whatever day of the week we camp, they mow. I realize the parks have to be maintained and appreciate the care, but use some common sense! This last visit was the worst! The mower came so close to our camper that I’m surprised he didn’t touch it. My husband had to run over and move our electrical cord so he didn’t run over it. He mowed the empty site behind us running over the dirt area numerous times kicking up a hellacious amount of dust. After that he proceeded to mow the front half of our campsite! UNACCEPTABLE! So if you appreciate a camper full of dirt, the load roar of a mower (at all times of the day), and grass mowing on your home away from home site you paid to have a little piece quiet and to experience nature then this is the place for you. I would have rated it lower, but everything else is 5 star.
Nice range of different sites. Many are quite large so you have room to spread out if you want. Lots of mature trees for shade. Bath house is very clean and has individual separate shower rooms. Beach and lake water are clean. Small concession stand has ice cream and other snacks and it's open 12.30p to 4.30p. Lots of parking if you're just coming to the lake for the day.nOnly downside to location is poor cell coverage with T-Mobile. Was working remotely and that made it challenging. But good to disconnect from technology for a few days.
Governor Whitmer believes you should be listening to her when she says Covid will kill you the moment you step outside.nnBut here at Portage Campground all of that fear is left at the gate!nnPeople of all types are here enjoying themselves. Campers galore fit in here nicely.nnEach site has a nice private layout. A nice fire ring is available with plenty of logs available in the nearby woods.nnIt all goes to show what else is left at the gate....Whitmer's tyranny!
Perfect summer beach, great little food bar, clean bathrooms. Great trails for year-round use, plus great ice skating and ice fishing in winter. Never stayed in the campground, but my husband and son take the tent for boys time in the summers and they absolutely love it. Perfect place!!!
