Every Winter Solstice I hike up to the Star that is mounted onto the tower on top of Mount Battie. It's a tradition that I try to share with others, and we usually make other hikes as well for the month that the Star is lit. I am so grateful for this seasonal effort. The Carriage Trail is a very nice, easy hike without any difficult climbing necessary. It goes all the way to the top of the paved road. The hike up takes about half an hour. It's a great hike any time of year.
Trail is in good shape with a little mud and ice. This was night hiking.
Nicely marked, semi challenging heading up to Mount Battie
Random little trail off the side of the road is a good spot that not lots of people go on. The trail is nice and would be a good spot to go on a mountain job. Sometimes it can get a little muddy depending on when you go but for the most part it is a cool trail. On the left side of the trail there are some boulders that are good for climbing.
Not too hard in the winter, great view of the sunrise.
