I really loved this nature preserve. The trails were fairly easy given they are swampland, you need to pay some attention for the markers in certain parts. You'll want to wear boots and bug spray. BUT, the pictures of the nice raised trailwalk aren't accurate. That part of the trail isn't there anymore. It's still worth visiting, but I wish I had realized that before to keep my expectations in check. Otherwise tons of wildflowers, birds, and other wildlife. It didn't seemed very trafficked and made for a nice hike.
One of a kind in Indiana! Beautiful place to take a peaceful hike.
I have always loved this place. The maintenance is poorly kept but limited resources is not the fault of the employees of the state. That is only because of the failing politicians who decide where our money goes and this is just a small piece of nature that politicians obviously care nothing about. But I love this place and thankful it is at least not a parking lot and mall by now.
This is a cool preserve. It's easily accessable with an ample parking lot. It's unfortunate that it seems to have been let go. There is no placard indicating a trail map. The guest register box was delegated and empty of paper. Trail markers are very faded, the board walk and observation deck in the cyprus swamp were closed due to unrepaired damages from a few fallen trees.nThere is a loop trail between the cyprus swamp and overcup oak slough. There's a closed observation deck at the cyprus swamp, but no observation area at the overcup oak slough. There is a lot of poison ivy bordering the trails. I went in late October, so I didn't have to deal with mosquitoes. I was also there after a drought, so the trails were dry and easy.nThere are many types of birds at the Twin Swamps, and would be a great place to bird watch. Take your binoculars.nThis would be a great place to have for a volunteer opportunity for the DNR master naturalist program.
Awesome swampland in Indiana!nBe sure to have heavy duty bug spray!nThe skeeters will eat you alive. ud83dude06nUnique plants, wildflowers and frogs!
