After recently moving here and working out at the Top Shape in Cedar Rapids I was excited to try out a new gym. This is a very appealing gym and looks great. Unfortunately there have been several occasions where I have been using the punching bag in the room that is used primarily for classes. Two times I have been rudely asked to leave because a class was starting. Both times the classes have contained no more than 5 students and on one occasion it consisted of only one person. A staff member here even came and started to detach the punching bag without even asking if I was done using it? This was frustrating as I consider myself a very clean person in the gym and believe that if I take care of my weights and equipment in the gym they will take care of me. Confused why this top shape can’t either relocate the kickboxing bag into the rarely used yoga room or allow some space for others to work instead of using a room that takes up a great deal of the gym space for a one person solo workout. I pay my gym membership just like everyone else, I would like to use the equipment that I am paying for instead of being kicked off of it for a one person class. So far this gym has been very disappointing.

Top Shape Gym overcharged me for my membership, declined to credit me for the amount I was overcharged, and required that I pay enrollment fees again in order to not continuously be overcharged. When TSG purchased the gym I attended, they immediately slashed staffed hours and cut benefits that were afforded under the previous gym owner, like the ability to bring a free guest. They initiated their pricing scheme at the gym but allowed the members that carried over from the previous owner to continue paying higher prices to attend the same gym with reduced benefits. They would not let me switch to their new pricing scheme without canceling my old account and charging me $80 enrollment fees even though I've already paid enrollment fees.
