The people who work there are super kind and knowledgeable. There was a tree that was over 600 years old and worth seeing. The tree lined entrance was pretty. For the price of admission, it was not historically or culturally enriching enough and not picturesque enough. Admission should be a fraction of what was charged. I wish the home had some furnishings and decor. We couldn't even see the upstairs.

Let me start by saying that I love history and was excited to visit the plantation. We decided to take a tour with one of the guides. It wasn't expensive really. Once we started on the tour, we realized that the guide was adding in her own commentary and opinions of the things that happened there. I wanted to hear about historical facts and happenings.

Beautiful and sad at the same time..

Jeff was an incredibly smart and engaging tour guide. Not only was he extremely knowledgable about the subject matter, but his passion was infectious. He exposes the uncomfortable history that traditional textbooks try to avoid by presenting various primary sources and statistics from the time period. Along the tour, he teaches American history while tying it back into anecdotes from the plantation. I truly felt like I was walking on that soil in the nineteenth century. Would highly recommend.

You come here for the story seldom told. I was surprised to learn this is one of two places in the country that talks about the plantation experience from the slave's perspective (only two places??). I was literally moved to tears. Our tour guide, Toby, was amazing. Must go and definitely do the guided tour to fully appreciate the place.
