This was my first visit to Raleigh and Big Ed’s was #1 on my bucket list. My family of 4 arrived at 9:45am and we were seated right away. The decor was complete with antiques and the staff were friendly and inviting. I ordered the 6 oz. ribeye, with eggs over-easy, grits, biscuits and a hot chocolate. Everything was cooked to order, hot and just what I needed.nnI loved the variety of home style country breakfast options, the employees, the location and I will return in the future. Thank you for a wonderful start to my visit.

Let me just start off by saying I don't like breakfast food...Especially biscuits. This place has made a liar out of me. Excellent food, large portions, great price, and AMAZING biscuits. I ate 4. Highly recommended!!!nnUpdate: 4 years later and my review has NOT CHANGED!!!!! This now a family breakfast spot every weekend that my little ones request to go to! ud83dude0aud83dude0a

Outstanding breakfast!! I go crazy for their colossal hot cakes! Food and service is always great and comforting. Big Ed's is perfect for a hearty country breakfast in the heart of the city.

A friend of mine and I took our 4 kids here after visiting the Marbles children's museum. The café at Marbles wasn't open so we wandered across the square and found ourselves in what looks to be an old-town section of Raleigh.nWalking up the cobblestone street, the front of Big Ed's looked like it was no big deal.nBut the food.nThe girls got the MASSIVE pancakes, french toast, and grits.nAnd the coffee!!nThe coffee was served in a classic diner mug.nAfter a full day of museum-walking, it was heavenly.nI even bought a mug so I could remember the experience :)nWe loved the atmosphere so much we stayed a while!nIt was like Cracker Barrel, but authentic :)nOnly thing negative was we closed the place down.nWe didn't know they have a closing time after lunch :)nOur server was a gem about it though.

Classic southern cooking! Always great! LOVE the coffee (S&D coffee), which is not bitter at all - unlike Starbucks, in my opinion. On my most recent visit, with a friend, we have exceptional service in addition to the yummy food. Can't go wrong!
