I lived near this park for many years and loved it. This is a rustic park that for many years was not open to anyone but nearby residents. Nowadays it's never crowded and is a lovely place for a walk, especially if you like quiet water views or if you are a dog. I warn you that this park is not for everyone. Many of the trails are not well marked, are frequented by mosquitos, and can get muddy. There are no facilities like bathrooms or ball fields or playgrounds here (the playground near the entrance is for residents only). Also, the parking lot is not paved, is open for rather limited hours, and can get a bit adventurous/muddy after it rains. We usually walk in one of two areas. First, in front of the parking lot, there's a main, paved path that eventually switches to gravel and goes around a little lake, frequented by herons, kingfishers, and osprey. After the gravel ends, if you keep walking through the grass, you will reach the beautiful South River, and there's a scenic trail along the cliff through the trees that eventually reaches a small sandy beach. Second, behind the parking lot, where the grassy field meets the treeline, there are several trail entrances that can be a bit hard to spot. But they all connect to a trail through the trees along the South River, which is quite pretty. If you walk far enough, there is a section that eventually meets up with the gravelly section of the main path, right before the little lake. I'll add that on dry days I've done these trails with a toddler in a jogging stroller, but I don't mind a bit of...creative driving. I suspect most parents would think that only the main paved/gravel portions are passable via stroller.
Beautiful park with some nice woods up and down trails and views of the water.
Beautiful place, kept in a natural state with lots of trails and beachline. Often damp and muddier than the surrounding area so be prepared. No facilities and parking hours for lot closer to the better trails end mid-afternoon.
Nice place for a quiet stroll on a beautiful day.
Neat little park with weird hours. Lived in the area for a decade and never bothered to visit!
