I went to FCW back in the 1990's. It was a middle school then and I was the only Caucasian. I feared going to and from class daily and it changed my life. The violence, gang fights, drugs and racism was out of hand. I remember we would line up to enter the gym locker room and once we were inside, the staff would lock the doors so we couldn't get out for at least 15 minutes. My classmates would turn off the lights and throw books, punches and anything else they could get their hands on. Sometimes high school students from other schools would pose as a middle school student and take part beating us up. The coaches knew what was going on and they would watch through the mirrored window.nnSometimes there would be violent attacks from other schools on our school grounds and hundreds of students would fight. I remember running to our school bus(the only yellow public school bus) and watch the students jump on top of police cars and swarm like bees as the police responded to the fights.nnI basically feared going to school everyday. I was forced to go anyways. At lunch I would go to the courtyard and hide. One particular day I was out there and a plane flying a David Duke for governor ad went right over the school. Let's just say that was a bad day for me. From then on I would go to the library during lunch because there was always someone from the staff in there. Whenever I was in class I felt safe and secure. I only remember have a few subjects over three years; African American History, English, Algebra, Drama and Earth Science. Most days I had a substitute teacher so we didn't learn much. I remember we did have an awesome band though we didn't have a football team.nnI have a lot of stories about school back in the day when Starter jackets were cool and by wearing one could get you killed, but hopefully nowadays things have changed. The past is the past and we have to focus on now and the future. We live in a new age with a new generation where we are working together versus against each other. Next time I drive through New Orleans I'm going to take a glance at the new school. I can only imagine there are no more fences with metal detectors at the entrance.

I would totally recommend FCW because it's like a warren Easton but just an elementary the fights are under control they literally had less than 10 which still isn't good but it's a great reduction . Bring your child to Fannie put it on your oneApp ASAP !! Especially good for pk- 8th they also serve children with disabilities so don't feel left out . and their special Ed is amazing the coordinator will Bend their backs to make sure your child gets the best education and the teachers are state certified . So there is nothing to worry about academic - wise they are on their way by 3% to being a B school.
