When the azelias bloom in the spring, the park takes on a vibrant appeal that it lacks most other days of the year because all the green machinery just blurs amidst the thick Louisiana bayou vegetation that surrounds the park. Plenty of shaded parking should you seek a quiet breezy spot for lunch. This is also a great place to park and gain access to the walking trails around the golf course.nnThe park offers a unique perspective on Fort Polk. It memorializes several things and people at once. It gives thanks to the heritage families who donated their land and sacrificed their homes and livelihood to allow the government to build Camp Polk. Numerous monuments memorialize former units who were tenants at Polk. Names of fallen service members adorn some of these, a permanent reminder of individual sacrifice. Finally, the vehicles on display capture the types of equipment that came to Polk from the 1940s through the Vietnam War era to train or were stationed here. Overall, it's a descent park that could be so much more if the installation invested in it.
Cute area. Nice pieces of historical army vehicles. And lots of shades for small picnics. No rsstrooms.
