Very delicious fare. First time visiting and enjoyed Sunday brunch. French toast was amazing and the bacon, eggs, and toast was absolutely delicious. Service, however, was a bit lacking. OJ ordered with meal didn’t come and wait staff had to be reminded. No offer for refill on coffee until 5 minutes after our plates were cleared. This prevented a 5 star as post pandemic one would expect service levels to be outstanding. Food was truly excellent though and I would return next time we are in town.

Locally sourced ingredients, elegantly prepared, with dynamic flavors. This is what you can expect when dining at Local Roots.nnThe menu is ever-changing, depending on what's in season. Recently I've had the fried mushrooms, homemade hummus platter, and Virginia mussels. A great place to share meals with your table and try a bit of everything.nnIt's such a welcoming environment, like you've walked into an old friend's home. Complete with fun artwork adorning the walls.nnDue to the pandemic, tables are placed farther apart, resulting in less available reservations and masks are required when not sitting.Try takeout if you aren't comfortable eating inside yet.

First off, the wait staff was fantastic and attentive. That's about where the good ends. The cheese plate was good, however they were out of a cheese, but substituted more of the other 3, and that's fine. The salad was meh. I had the meatloaf as the main course, and the meatloaf was terrible, it tasted like fish. I have no clue how this happens, I've never had anything like it. There was a creamy side with it that was amazing, and the potato's were nothing special but edible. I had a barrel aged belvedere that was also not good. It tasted like the twisted orange peel oil was concentrated so much all you got was the bitterness. As Roanoke's premiere restaurant and $100 per person for dinner, I was really expecting something better. As a classically trained chef, the food was beyond sub-par for the price they charge, farm-to-table or not. Honestly, if the main dish was even edible it could have been gone, but I couldn't even get past a few bites in. Absolutely terrible. However, as noted above, the wait staff was great.

On a hiking trip to triple crown, decided to hit this place, such a gem true to its name local roots, locally sourced farm to table menu, darkened catfish was delicious and bread pudding sealed the deal.
