This trail was great! We were looking for a little traveled trail as so many of the Blue Ridge Parkway trails are overcrowded and impossible to social distance. This trail fit the bill. It is accessible off a beautiful and little traveled road. We were the only hikers for more than an hour and it was only on our way back that we passed 5 people total. We just walked up the Scothorn Trail and then walked part way on the Gap Creek Trail, perhaps a total of 4 miles up and back. It is fairly uphill most of the way and rocky, so you need to have sturdy shoes and be careful walking back down. We loved it. Because there are no views on the trail, we capped off the day with a short drive a few miles further down the road to the Massanutten Storybook Trail - a very short, walk up to a lovely view. So we got our hike and a view!
Bravo to the US forest service for this trail. We did 2 1/2 hour hike up and back. Excellent maintenance of the trail. Not too steep but a good workout. However there is no Overlook view at the top. We would do it again in a heartbeat.
Fun trail. A good climb, nice view.
