The Confederate statues are a contentious and controversial topic on this park, however, the park is an elegant, well suited park for a historic courthouse and its surroundings.
Elegant court square park which carries and honors the history and traditions of Albemarle County civil justice. Brick walks, tree-lined paths and lawns and gardens surround the original General Court building(now with many additions) which dates back to the late 19th century. The honored equestrian soldier depicts dedication to true valor.
This would be a delightful park if the city would remove the dreadful tarps from around the magnificent equestrian sculpture/Confederate Memorial.
Keeping America history alive....we all have sacrificed
This park would be a lot better if it didn't have a large contingent of drug dealers and bums-which is as bad as the hippies that hung here during the 1960s during the Charlottesville riot era. Also, it is filthy and despite being near the courthouse not a place to be late at night. It would be safest for you to avoid this area after dark.
