Section of AT trail is maintained by Piedmont Appalachian Trail Hikers or PATH. There are 2 or 3 parking spots and a few tent sites. Area can be muddy. Approach road to walkers gap is not state maintained anymore. Erosion can be bad at times the last quarter mile to Walker gap. High clearance is recommend. There's spring about 100 yards down the road marked by blue blazes. Another more relatable spring is 0.25 north of Walker gap by blue blazer trail. If camping at the top of chestnut knob take water as none is on top.
