Scarlet honeycreepers EVERYWHERE. Come when it rains.. you’ll have the place to yourself (and the birds).
You won't believe it but it's hard to navigate on this short trail. Got lost and had to go back. This is the first time this happened to me.
Coming down from Haleakalā you should make a stop for a quick (less than an hour hike here). It’s a beautiful forest of non native trees. Essentially an experiment by conservationists a century ago to stop erosion by introducing non native tree species. It didn’t really work, but the forest is still very beautiful.
