First, I want to start with the positive. There are a few very kind and competent staff members working here. Also, the grounds are beautiful. Sadly, this was not near enough to make up for the lack of organization, structure, and inconsistencies we encountered among the staff at Newport. During our son's stay, there were several broken promises and misinformations. I cannot recommend this treatment center in good conscious. While I realize there are not many places to pick from in Washington state. If you have a child that would thrive best in an organized, structured environment my suggestion is to be open to out of state placement, as there are much better choices.

I strongly recommend you steer clear of this facility. There are better options out there.nnFundamentally, this is a money-making venture and that is their top priority. We did not experience any care or concern for our son or our family as a whole. They just go through the paces and are deceptive and dishonest.nnOur family was not helped whatsoever and was then left with a mess to clean up. Our son’s stay there ended up doing more harm than good. It was a waste of time and money. He made no progress in his sobriety and our family dynamic was negatively impacted by the family therapists.nWe had more than one family therapist and they were both terrible. Disrespectful, disorganized, uncommunicative, judgemental, presumptive, unprofessional. Ultimately, they both did more harm than good, creating some long-lasting emotional damage.nnWe ended up having to start over from scratch and had much better success with a different program.

Don't do it. I know you're likely feeling desperate, but keep looking. Our family has had multiple experiences here, and they have proven that they care more about your money than your child.nnIt may be fine for a one-time break for you and your son, but I can assure you, they do not actually care about your family or your son's recovery. The therapists are jaded and overwhelmed, and the management is just running a business.nnThey ended up doing more harm than good for my son. Trust was broken and emotional damage done. This was shared with them and no apology or attempt at repair has been received.

Newport may be good at simple cases of alcohol or marijuana abuse for well to do families but it did a terrible job in the case of a cousin of mine who had more severe mental health and substance abuse issues. With little notice or remorse, they kicked him out without any plan of where he was to go afterward. Unless you are a rich family with a child with minor substance abuse issues, seek better treatment options.

“Empowering Teens Restoring Families“  couldn't be further from the truth.nnStaff at Newport - Port Townsend caused our family some significant disconnect and distress that we have had to repair on our own. The family therapists were completely disorganized, uncommunicative, and outright hurtful.nnWe will be filing a formal complaint. In the meantime, we wanted to warn families who are desperate for help. Families who come there are in a vulnerable place and the staff here take advantage of that.nnWe understand first-hand how tough this can be and how eager you may feel to get help, but take the time to shop around for facilities outside of Washington State. There are better options out there.
