Lake Abert

Serene beauty..

Amazing, how big this lake is. At one point we entered so fog. Hard to believe after the beautiful warm sunshine.

Beautiful scene, in the exact middle of nowhere. Google asked for a review so here it is: A pretty place in the middle of nowhere. Going through Oregon to or from Idaho/California, take the 395. WATCH OUT FOR THE CATTLE. It's free range, not kidding you: CATTLE in the middle of the road. No gasoline after Valley Falls, no eats, no restrooms between there and Riley (the highway Rest Stop is closed due to weather intermittently). But buy something at each store (anything) so they can stay in business. Pictures? At every turn of the road. And look behind you, too; the cliffs are positively breathtaking.

Absolutely stunning, breathtaking views. Wildlife, especially birds, are abundant in and around the lake. Gulls and geese in the water and asking the shore. Deer and bighorn sheep in the surrounding mountains and Abert Rim area. Plenty of pull-offs along the road to get out of the car and take pictures and/or go for a hike.

On our cross country motorbike ride this was a highlight. The lake side highway was in impeccable condition - like new really - and virtually absent of other vehicles. We loved the smooth flowing curves and views, and we each ranked it in the top ten parts of our 7,650 mile trip across the USA
