Amazing historical site! As you walk inside the fort and trading post just realize you are walking, literally, in the footsteps of pioneers, soldiers and native Americans who walked those grounds!

This NPS unit sits near the border of Montana and North Dakota so it is a little out of the way but still worth the trip. The visitor center and restrooms are currently closed. The ranger told us they were currently rebuilding (or establishing) the bookstore. We collect NPS stamps and were worried we would miss these. We called ahead of time and they had us use the call box in the parking lot. The ranger met us with the stamps. We really appreciated her generosity!nnWe also took a very muddy walk out to the Missouri River, but we didn’t see any wildlife.

Great place, full of history! Well done on the reconstruction. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

Such an incredible place, we learned so much about local history. The kids loved also getting their junior trader badge
