Beautiful recreation area with plenty of hiking trails. The saguaros are incredible, and while there were plenty of people on the main paved trails, you could easily get away from the crowds by taking unpaved trails up into the canyon.
I always love hiking at Sabino Canyon. I only had an hour and a half before work this morning so headed out on Rattlesnake trail across the road and down to the damn and then back to the visitor's center. The entire Rattlesnake trail was in the shade because the mountains were blocking the sun. The saguaros are amazing and the vegetation is lush right now even with no water running anywhere. Saw a tarantula along the way as well. Tucson is a beautiful place!
When buying tickets for the Tram, please note that it's CASH ONLY. I did not find it noted on their website anywhere so please make sure you have cash.nnThe Tram ride is awesome! The driver points out rock formations, talks about the history, animals, and plants of the canyon. The Tram takes you all the way up to the top of the 3.7-mile trail making stops along the way. This allows you to exit the Tram to explore or to get back on the Tram to take you to another stop. You also have the option to walk the trail. Or both -- ride the Tram part way and walk part way. You can do that all day (just show your ticket stub to get back on the Tram), but once you get back to the parking lot, your ride is over. It's beautiful. A must see!
Sabino Canyon is a beautiful area. There is a visitor center, a gift shop and ample opportunities for walking, hiking and bicycling. Photographers and artists will have ample opportunities to employ their skills.
A slice of heaven on Earth.
