Rye Patch State Recreation Area

Fantastic park. Reservoir is beautiful. Plenty of birds flying all around. Beautiful views. No internet connection.

Really nice reservoir with totally rural everything. There's some land for sale there for really cheap if you don't mind being an hour from Fernly and Winnemucca. Sulfur can be found there too.

For a thin, long, little dessert lake, it is actually quite nice--especially the west end of the lake. It has great showers and rest rooms, as well as great folk. They are very cordial and helpful where they can be.nnThe east end, while less attended, is more rugged and more suited for back packing where you have everything with you on your back.nnThis place is a breath of fresh air (pun intended) compared to the smoke-filled Great Valley of California. While not completely smoke free, this place does not give me a headache, the stars are wonderful, the sun is out, though somewhat discolored, but I'm thankful for even this...

Quiet, easy to get the travel trailer in and out. Even though the showers and bathrooms were closed (off season) the park had a porta-potty set up for the few of us that braved cooler weather camping

For a first time experience, I suggest showing up when you still have a little daylight left because the tent campgrounds are tucked back off the road and hard to see in the dark.nnThe main camping is easy to spot off the basin with an easy to access boat launch that has a long dock to take in some great views.nnIf you're lucky you may even catch a cool surprise in the morning!
