While booking I didn't realize the train is completely open and the ride is about an hour long. Remember to bundle up as it gets pretty cold especially in the evening hours.nnElf's (2 young's girls walking car to car) kept the kids entertained and it was a surprise to see Santa at the end. Overall, a good winter experience.
With the Polar Express being canceled due to Covid, I wanted to do something special with my 4 1/2yr old son. We booked tickets on the open air car train ride and rode to the North Pole. It was awesome. The look of wonder in his little face riding on a train car and then pulling up to the North Pole and waving to Santa while he took a break from making toys to say hi to us. Priceless. We'll definitely be booking for the Polar Express next year but even if they do this again We'll be there. Thank you Catskill Mountain Railroad
In the NYC area and want to escape the depression of city life? Why not escape upstate to the views of nature and calmness? This is one fall activity that is perfect for a date, a friendly hangout, or a family adventure.nnWe came here for the Pumpkin Patch Railroad Ride, at the end of October, right when peak season was almost at its end. We took the first train ride of the day (10am) which was about a 2 hour car ride. Costing $19 a person, the train ride is about an hour long ride and you are able to take home a pumpkin that was located at the ends of each cart of the train. Instead of a loop, the train reaches its end, and then travels the opposite direction back to where we boarded, so regardless if you are in the front or back you are able to see the same view.nnBeing early morning and in the high 40’s-50’s I did underdress for the occasion, so definitely bundle up. They have train rides happening all year round from spring to winter time, each season with its own series varying from Easter to a Robbery adventure on the train. The next upcoming train ride series called the Catskill Christmas Express that takes you to “Santa’s workshop” and you receive a small gift (definitely perfect for those of you who have kids)nnTip: Dogs are allowed, only if they are able to fit on your lap.
Our family went for the Christmas ride to see Santa, and despite the pandemic, they made it so special! The elves/hosts were wonderful, and the whole experience was awesome for my two and eight year olds. Would highly recommend this!
Old country railroad with amazing scenery. A real step back in time but with so much nostalgic charm. A real trip down memory lane
