A big thank you to the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport, here’s why: I volunteer with Rock CF, a non-profit that raises money for and helps people with Cystic Fibrosis. The Airport graciously allowed us to host the annual Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon and 5K our of this space. It makes for a really cool starting point for a great cause. The hanger is large is large with parking on site.

In 1948 I was enlisted in the US Navy and this site was a us Navy Air Craft Base. I assisted with analyzing and reporting weather reports for Navy Pilots using the Airport. I left here in the fall of 1949 to become a U S Navy Officer Candidate at Vanderbilt University. Why does your story not include WW2 history there?. I was born and raised in East Detroit. Beware of potholes on ramp and taxiways. Lots of FOD on all surfaces. Was advised by Detroit approach to check the “long list” of Notams for this facility
