Soloed here in 1939 Aeronca, part owner. Got most of my hours in before I had to get radio time in a 150 Cessna. My dad was in the Army Air Corp and had his license, but lost it (physically). I hadn’t told him I was learning to fly. Then when I was ready to solo, I asked him if he wanted to go to breakfast one morning. We lived in Summit county and while driving to Salem.....he said where in the #€*? are we going...after breakfast as I was driving by Koons field.....said do you want to look at some airplanes? As we walked by a couple of planes, he told about each (he was an A & E mechanic in the service). When we got to the Aeronca, he said he used to ferry the up from Dayton where the were manufactured, I said it’s mine. Of course he wasn’t sure what I was saying until Kenny Koons with white beard and all came from his office and said are you ready for your solo.....long story short... Mr. Koons wrote Oklahoma and dad got his license. And a few weeks later we bought a 1956 172 Cessna ( N5948A ). Great father son memory. Thank you Mr. Koons. Roy V. Burnett Jr.
