This was the most beautiful natural area in Palm Beach County. It was 100% Natural Florida at its best, had the privilege of seeing alot of wildlife and an baby American Alligator. It is well kept and the off the grid trails are absolutely peaceful and beautiful. Don't forget to bring water and sunscreen because it can get hot and some areas are straight 100% Florida Sunshine . This is a family friendly Natural Area and a great place to fish, hike and kayak.

No dogs allowed. Great long path, only a small amount is paved the rest is dirt paths. There is very little parking and there are a lot of good places to fish.

So much fun! My kids love it. So far we have been twice and saw a tortoise both times! We even got to see a heron catch his lunch right in front of us.

Located to the south of both Dyer Park and the R.C. Bush Pilots airport, Winding Waters Natural Area is a 548 acre preserve composed largely of a variety of original and restored wetlands.nnThe small parking lot, which holds less than a dozen cars and sports an informational kiosk, leads to a kayak/canoe launch, a designated catch-and-release fishing area and miles of different walking paths both paved (perfect for someone in a wheelchair or who needs a firm, stable path) and unpaved.nnIt's a favorite spot among local birders at it provides quite a number of species for viewing including herons, gallinules, coots, eagles, roseate spoonbills, cranes and anhinga. Of course you'll see the ever-present lizard warming in the sun, as well as badger tortoises (look for one of their burrows!) and the occasional gator.nnThere are no facilities here, so if you need a bathroom or source of fresh water, you're best bet is to drive north to one of the facilities at adjacent Dyer Park.nnOverall, it feels a bit solitary but I suppose that is the idea. It's still a great local resource for bird watching, nature walks and kayak excursions. It could only be improved by providing some amenities that include potable, running water, bathrooms, a picnic table or two and a few chickees to provide some much needed shade and shelter.

Beautiful water expanse on the edge of Palm Beach - best to go at the beginning or end of the day to see the most wildlife. Birds and alligators and snakes all over.
