A great school. My son attended Somerset pines elementary and then when he was ready for middle school attended Somerset Academy Key. The quality of Somerset Key is the same high quality as Somerset pines. It is a school that puts emphasis on behavior, good citizenship and high morals as well as a challenging academic structure that prepares a student well for college or trade school. My son is autistic and public school had given up on him, Somerset took the time to work with our son along with our autistic specialist over the years to create a perfect learning environment using online tools, color coded filing system and a other learning tools designed for our son to keep him organized and on track. My son is now in his first year of high school at Somerset Key and has a 4.0 GPA taking advanced AP and honors classes while doing his second year in dual enrollment in college so he can graduate high school through this school with a college degree from BCC for his associate of Arts and be able to finish his bachelor's degree in half the time it would otherwise take him. This is my son whom public school diagnosed as developmentally delayed and gave up on teaching because his autism. Somerset has helped him learn to be a fine young man with strong teachings in behavior and kindness and they have helped him reach academic success beyond our wildest dreams. It is because the principal, staff, teachers all care.. it is because it is run like a small personal private school with access to programs and resources equal to or beyond anything a public school offers.

I attended this school for 1 and a half years and that's enough time to say I would not recommend this school. Many of my teachers were terrible and had no idea how to teach, I've had 3 different math teachers every quarter last year before I transferred. My first year at the school, my teachers would just give us worksheets expecting us to know how to do it and just went on their phones the rest of class. There were only a few teachers that I really loved and was close to that I could talk to about anything and who would really help with my problems. This is coming from someone who never misbehaves, straight a's ect. (not trying to brag lol) so I don't want to hear that I was the one misbehaving. Pretty much all my friends switched schools after only 2 years there and the rest of my friends there still are failing or can't stand attending there anymore. My biggest issue is that there is no clinic if you get hurt or sick, one time my ear got very swollen and bleeding and I had to helplessly run around the school during class looking for someone to help me, crying, while it was bleeding every where in front of all my peers, it was very embarrassing. Also, I was lucky enough that I packed my lunch because no one ever ate the lunch served there because of how horrible it was. This school is also very small and barely enough space for both middle schoolers and high schoolers, the hallways were always very crowded and it was difficult to get to class. But that is one of the only reasons why I like the school because of how small it is everyone knows each other and everyone is very close. You knew all the teachers and that made it easier to form bonds with the teachers. I also want to add that kids with disabilities are treated very poorly for their breakdowns and were bullied a lot. Lastly, it's not very safe, there's always a fight in the school and outside the school with the neighboring school. In conclusion I honesty had a good time at the school but I didn't really learn a lot and wasted a lot of my time and fell behind once I transferred. So if you want to send your child here I do not recommend it. (:

Everyone works very hard to achieve excellence! The staff is very nurturing and place students as priorities. Unfortunately, most of the students are just missing the best time and opportunities that are offered at school and at home. Precious time in their lives! It’s going to go fast, just enjoy the ride! There are no need to be difficult with adults and other students! Just follow the rules and learn what you need to learn. Stop with the excuses! It’s easy to blame the school, when the student chose to play and do whatever they want. Life doesn’t work like that. ud83eudd14

This school is terrible. Even though they just started, i just need to point out they need lots of improvement. As a former student who went there for 4 years, I can say that this school indeed is not serving it's purpose as a school at all. A school is to help students and pupils learn and get the education they need and deserve. Somerset Academy Key does not do that. For all the years I was there, teachers didn't teach, instead they were rude and did not care about the student's education. If a school is supposed to hire teachers, they should hire teachers who actually want to teach and are good at their job. All in all, I believe there were about 12 teachers tops, who aced at their job. The amount of teachers who don't teach is unbelievable. Not only this but because of my years going to this school, once I began my future in another school, it became way harder for me. I practically lost 4 years of my education and now I am so behind in my studies and over knowledge and understanding. And this isn't even the end of it, this school also has such terrible food and service. The security can't even do their job well either. It's such a small school and every day there is ALWAYS students skipping. Back to the school size and structure, this is a middle and high school and I don't think it is acceptable for students to have to be using only two staircases, with only 2 buildings, one of those buildings is one floor while the other is just two floors, but it is always so crowded and the middle schoolers are always getting trampled. As for the bathrooms/locker rooms, they are the most disgusting things ever. There are always bugs in the locker rooms and they even took out all of the mirrors, leaving glue and pieces of the wall all over the place. Paper towels stuck to the walls and ceilings along with nasty language everywhere. The sports programs and electives here are very weak with almost little to nothing of effort. Because of this school, many students misbehave, doing drugs, acting foolish, and skipping. And before you say that the reason I wrote this was solely because I too am one of the troublemakers, that is incorrect. I was an A student with no record marks in the school and even so, I learned absolutely nothing. This school did not prepare me in any way whatsoever. The only upside I can say about this school is that since it was a small school, everyone knew each other. Therefore we were all close and were friends. I did have many good and fun memories but still went to school with dread since there was also no point in coming because I received no education. But along with being close, this could also end up the wrong way. This could also mean frequent arguing or it can be taken in a good way. In conclusion, this school needs so much improvement and is not doing well at all. I do not encourage your child to come here. If you care about the education and well-being of your child, it would be most voted to go to any other school. After all, based on statistics, they show this school was a 1/10 on school ratings.
