We use this parking lot to access Old Rag as an alternative trail to the more popular rock scramble route. Ensure you arrive before 8am as it holds a very limited capacity, and fills up especially fast on weekends. There is no overflow parking available along the road in/out.

Close and convenient to the trail, however, it’s definitely pretty small. Not as tiny as some of the other trailhead parking lots, but it gets full fast. Especially on weekends.

A great place to park to access Old Rag Mountain as opposed to the parking lot in Nethers. Head up the fire road for approximately 5/8 of a mile to the Old Rag Mountain trailhead, from here you can turn right to Old Rag Mountain or walk past the trialhead and take the right turn to continue downhill on the fire road for approximately 1.8 miles to reach what I call the back side of Old Rag Mountain which is the old parking lot. Turn right from here and you will see a trailhead that will point you up the mountain. It is about 2 miles of a good uphill climb mixed in with some good rock scramble as you near the top. I call this summit Lower Rag. The next 1.5 miles will take you to Old Rag Mountain and are very difficult scrambles mixed in with a little rock climbs and a nice little downward chimney descent. The views are excellent. Once you have reached the summit of Old Rag Mountain it is approximately 2 miles of downhill hiking that your body will enjoy after the previous 3.5 miles to reach the next trailhead. Turn left and reach the parking lot in 5/8 miles. Give yourself a thumbs up, you just looped Old Rag Mountain.

This map info is wrong. There is no parking where the little green tree icon appears on google map. Birchgate lane is PRIVATE! Do not enter, very hard to turn around and the people who live there are NOT friendly!
