Glenns Painting & Power Washing

We hired Glenn to paint the inside of our home and he promised to do a good job and make it look good. His card stated that he was licensed and insured and he seemed like such a nice guy. When he was finished, there were missed spots and for some reason an obvious border where the ceiling and wall meet. He was painting an off-white room that wasn't very bad with an off-white paint. We wanted him to fix it. He wanted another $1000 to do so and said that it needed another coat of paint. We told him we shouldn't have to pay him more. As we were trying to negotiate a price to have him finish, he became very rude and unprofessional. It made me wonder if he even was a professional. I checked on his contractor's license and it expired in 2004. We asked him for his license number and insurance information and he told us it was none of our business. I'm guessing he doesn't have insurance either but I was not able to verify that. We paid a professional painter to repaint the entire house. And even though the law states that Glenn is not entitled to a lien on my house because he does not have the required contractor's license, the clerk's office let him file one anyway. Apparently, they are not required to do a simple license search on the VA gov't website before recording it. Save yourself a lot of stress and check his credentials before hiring him.
