Enjoyed stopping here before turning around and heading back to Leesburg. Be sure to try the baked goods at the bakery across the street.
The W&OD trail is a former railway converted into a paved trail system. From urban heartland to distant countryside this trail traverses history dating to the earliest days of America. Accessible for horses, bikes, and pedestrians much of this trail is the backbone for the northern Virginia industry. Wether you are going to work , working out, or pushing your limits the W&OD trail is your best optionnnAs far as maintenance, NOVA has outdone themselves with striving to ensure the quality and safety of this trail, they implemented many rest stops, water fountains and shelters.nMany historical tid bits along the route give history to the origins of the trail.nnThose few souls brave enough to push through the most challenging part of the trail (Clark’s gap) will eventual make it to the end of the trail in Purcellville. Nothing really marked the end other than some traffic markings saying “trail end 100ft”nThere are public bathrooms and water fountains easily accessible and many restaurants.
Something for everyone. Trail is kept clean and well maintained. Runners, walkers, all sorts of bike riders. Everyone is polite and nice. Great asset to the region.
My 12 year old son and I had a blast biking! Everyone we encountered was friendly and the trail was well kept. Will definitely do it again!
The ride from Leesburg to Perciville is great. Some slightly up hill sections are off set by getting to coast on the way back to Leesburg. Good tree cover coupled with not to many street crossings. Beautiful scenery.
