Dulles Airport

New parents, one European and one American, arrived on international flight from Europe with 6 month old infant. Flight attendants told us there were family rooms in each gate where I could use my breast pump (son does not nurse). This was in error, when landing you have no access to this. Bus from international terminal is a joke. Herded into a vehicle like cattle and a wheel chair came at the last moment and told everyone to ‘make room’ when there was none. Customs agent was 5 times slower than other customs agents (watched 15 people go through the line next to us while we waited on those in front of us to be checked). The guy asked if we had fruit and I realised suddenly I had a pink lady apple we’d forgotten to eat. Told the guy. And this apparently is enough to require agricultural checks. We rush over as my son is going nuts, my breasts are on verge of getting clogged milk ducts which would then turn to mastitis and require a round of antibiotics. The man at the agricultural check desk was on a power trip and had no business being at that desk. The person before us in line was finished, left, so we approached trying to be open about our situation and he asked us ‘ can you read english? Read that sign’ which says stay behind a line until it is your turn. At which point I prepare to pump in public. Then my husband trying to defuse my meltdown tries to explain the situation to the guy and the guy repeats ‘please answer my question’ until my husband goes sorry, what? as we did not hear him ask a question and the guy says, hi, how are you?’ And my husband goes, hi not good... my wife’s breasts are exploding she needs to pump. The guy goes ‘ what am I supposed to do about that, do I need to call you an ambulance? ‘. Then we try to explain I need to use my breast pump and ask if I can use the bathroom. At this he seemed to switch and be like ok yes of course. My husband tells me after this it seemed to go better and that others later that he encountered had the ability to empathise. Will avoid this airport at all costs in future after this experience.

Long lasting queue at customs while landing. And poor duty free shopping area while departing.

Easy to go about, nice clean terminal.

Favorite DC Airport in Loudoun County, VA.

An airport far away from the center of Washington. A big downside is also the way of getting between terminals.
