This is an unmaintained trail. As of early 2021, the first two miles from the north are easily accessible. Expect a rutted dirt path. If it's rained somewhat recently, there will be several ponds, but with well-worn paths around them. If it's rained really recently, I expect it would be very muddy and not fun.nnThe main sights will be Hawaiian foliage and beautiful mountains rising up above on both sides. At the 1 mile point, the foliage to the right opens up, and you'll be able to see down into the Hanalei National Wildlife Reserve. That beautiful view of the Hanalei Valley, the Kuna Ditch, and a few waterfalls is worth the price of admission.nnThe trail effectively ends two miles from the north where it turns into a river. The south end (at the Arboreteum) also quickly turns into a river, less than a quarter mile in. I suppose you could wade between the two, but WHY? So consider this a two-mile in-and-out hike (four-mile roundtrip) at Princeville, and nothing more.nnExplore the side paths. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

The road and hiking area are no longer maintained. Much better places to hike on Kauai. So sad because this used to be such a great spot. If you're going to hike, stay on the road. DO NOT enter or hike on the side trails. These are for mountain biking.

North Powerline Trail: Easy to moderately-easy trail. ATV accessible but large ruts in places. First half mile offers little to no views. Side spur on the west side about half mile in from the north side is scenic with an excellent view of a pretty waterfall, along with ocean, valley, and mountain views. Worth hiking at least once.

Recommend bringing large. Waterproof boots. And if you can try not to wander to far off the main trail
