Little Rock Creek Lake Trailhead

The trailhead is set up very well for anyone going in for a planned hike. I wouldn't recommend this hike for anyone with bad knees or limited mobility because of the elevation loss and gain throughout the trail. The view is pretty jaw dropping within the first seven minutes of one foot after the other. This is a great reminder of what we have here in Big Sky Country. A friend and I went on a backpacking trip to Little Rock Creek Lake for an overnight adventure. The mosquitos were not a problem until we arrived at the lake. We scrambled to start a fire to ward them off but it was to be expected that time of year. The trail is maintained well up until the last three miles headed towards the lake. There are some spots where there are branches dug into the ground to mark the unofficial trail. These are hard to spot at some points where you are cris-crossing the creek but are findable. I would recommend being prepared to get wet if you are going all the way to Little Rock Creek Lake. If I had to set a skill level for this trip I would say at least have one well experienced person in your party.
