Goat Mountain Trailhead

Goat mountain burned relatively recently during the Roaring Lion fire in 2016, but there's a lot of bushy growth on it and it seems to be a great spot for Blue birds and woodpeckers, and viewing wildflowers in general. During tick season, there are quite a lot of ticks at the top, presumably because mountain goats do in fact bed down here from time to time. This is a great mountain for training as it is a very vertical climb. I believe there's about a 1600 ft elevation gain and it's up the whole way. It takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to the top if you don't stop too much. The view from the top is great but I would not recommend this for someone that does not hike all the time. In addition to being a tough climb, it's very exposed and can get quite hot and dusty. I do recommend hiking boots with good traction as the dry dust can be hard to get good purchase on. This mountain is also well known for it's association with local legend Mario Locatelli, an accomplished mountaineer who used to use this climb daily for trail running and could get to the top in about a half hour.
