Frank & Lupe's El Sombrero

Thanks to Briana at the front desk at the Red Roof Inn in Socorro, I had dinner at her recommendation. El Sombrero has recently changed hands and seemed a bit under fire from new personnel adjusting to the restaurant's style, however the atmosphere in the Covid-friendly super dome was safe and peaceful, the food, my beef Chalupa, and the service, were excellent. I will always stop here when I pass through town.nnThey are waiting on their license so they can sell beer and wine so call ahead if that's a critical part of your dining experience.

Socorro best kept secret for dining. The line for the other popular diner in town was 60min wait and there was plenty to of seating here. Food prices are low given such quality food and substantial portions!

So our visit was not pleasant. Upon at arriving at 12:50pm we walked into the lobby. Stood for 3 min and were never greeted. I finally spoke out and said good after noon how are you doing today, finally one of the employees made eye contact and said good. Lol! Ok so it took another minute or two to get seated. 1:10 pm a server came to take our drink order. Oh and just to mention there were only 4 tables plus ours. No more than 5 people on a party. 1:25 pm our order was taken for food. It’s not 2:00pm as I’m typing this and still nothing. We’ve been seated for an hour and we are still waiting. I will post some photos of what the main atrium looks like. With only one other table in the main lobby with 4 people. Sad thing is speaking to another couple that was eating said they haven’t learned their lesson because this is the norm. Our poor waitress was on her first day. The gentleman who was or I assume was the manager never even showed up to help her. Very very very unorganized and horrible management practices. Looks like they had a dishwasher and a cook. Where Mexican food is 80% remade it should never take this long. Good old El Sombrero. I’d advise you not to waste your time here. I for sure will never return. There are a limited selection of restaurants but this is not one to come to.

Well, the food was ok. Asked for egg to be cooked over medium to avoid runny egg whites but came with runny whites. Bizarre service. We have been here before and never had such an off experience. Perhaps just a bad day? Not sure we will be back.
