Hyde Memorial State Park

So close and yet...

This park has really nice covered grilling/picnic areas, a playground and there's a quick hike up to a small waterfall. Perfect place to take kids for an hour or two if you're spending a day in Santa Fe. There are some longer hikes and camp grounds if you're looking for a longer stay.

I've only been to Hyde State Park in the winter, so your use may vary. It is convenient to Santa Fe, so that's good (or bad). From the winter hikes I've been on, the snowshoe routes are the best. Basically pick a terrain and go. The park isn't so big that you lose your bearings, because you can almost always see a prominent geographical feature to orient yourself. I tried to find Little Tesuque Falls for ice climbing and failed. Should've done more research first. But I had a splendorous day by myself on a ridge in the snow.

Beautiful place to stay. Saw an awesome mountain lion so that was cool lol
