Fort Wadsworth - Gateway National Recreation Area

Beautiful off the beaten path walk. Green and natural.

Nice lodging could be updated.

The elevation of this once formidable fort allows for scenic and panoramic views of New York harbor, with Manhattan’s famed skyline and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in full view. History buffs would be interested in learning about the history and strategic significance of the port.nnThere is a rather obscure lighthouse dwarfed by the bridge and the Battery Weed fortress that anchors it. It was not accessible when we visited and all we can do is find the closest view possible and take pictures.nnThis place is best reached by car (no parking fees). There is limited public transportation that drops you off a 15-minute walk away.

Loved it dog had a blast!

A must see if you are in Staten Island. During winter bring your sleigh or other snow riding device as there is an awesome hill to ride here. The views of Manhattan island are amazing as well as the Verrazano Bridge.
