I would give six ud83cudf1f if I could. A lot of trails and beautiful waterfalls. Bluffs on both sides of the river with very tall trees. If I'm not mistaking The sipsey wilderness area host's the biggest tree in Alabama. Great kayaking, fishing, horse trails, walking trails everywhere and so much wildlife you could come every day and still not see all this place has to offer.
Nice secluded place. Bring a longer stick to knock all the spider webs down that cross the trails. I got face fulls of them before getting a long stick to clear the way in front.
Beautiful, especially if some exploration is done. I'd advise avoiding the horse/wagon/hiking trails, as there's not much to see and having to carry water due to minimal water sources on those trails. Check out Rippey Cabin, The Biggest Tree in AL, Eye of the Needle, Fall Creek Falls, Model-T, old bridges, Fat Man Squeeze, and countless waterfalls. Very beautiful, especially if you can find these gems scattered throughout. Some cell service South and East of Big Tree, along with a couple other small zones with 4G LTE. Enjoy!! ud83dude43
the trails are beautiful just like the other reviews say, however, the google directions that bring you to Thompson trailhead will bring you down about 5 miles or hole-filled dirt roads that are really only suitable for trucks or other off-road vehicles. luckily we made it unscathed, but another couple there ended up stranded with a flat tire... maybe look up a route to a different trail head if your car isn't up for an off road adventure!
Enjoyed these trails so much! Great day hiking, backpacking and camping. Trails were dog friendly and mostly mellow. A few technical spots that provided a fun challenge as we searched for and found several of the gorgeous waterfalls!
