Helping on an Eagle Scout project to build and install a new kiosk with box, roof, and bench for arboretum that is used to teach NCSU Forestry students about natural and invasive tree species. Cold and wet, but Schenck is always worth it! Trail for hikes, horses, and no problem social distancing this time of year!

Very cool place. I felt like I was in the mountains at certain points. This is will definitely become my go to spot for leisure hiking/walking.

There is no official parking place, you can only park on both sides of the entrance and there are muddy roads. Although it is open to the public, many paths have been opened up due to the increase in the number of people walking, and many places including camping courses have been abandoned and deserted, becoming some attractions in the park.

This location has a variety of different trails. Near the road where you park, there is a large open trail that leads to smaller trails in the woods as well as a shelter you could eat at. Additionally, there is a paved trail that walks adjacent to the asphalt road and meets up with a wooded trail further down. Very scenic and full of wildlife, as well as informational with the signs from NCSU about the area.

So peaceful. C.A.Schenck's legacy lives on, this forest continues to be a living lab. On this visit I learned that the mature longleaf pines we see here were planted in 1938 on a barren field.
