Deer ticks. Heavy heavy ticks. Be warned. Temperatures are a lot warmer than expected and campsites are decent.
Amazing camp site. If its not foggy the view from the fire tower is spectactular. I would pack extra clothes because it gets quite cold at night. Would highly recommend this spot.
Located atop Mount Sterling in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park just inside the North Carolina border, this is an awesome (although hard-to-reach) campsite. Prepare for weather as you will be spending the night above the 5000 foot mark. Complete with unofficial observation deck, an abandoned fire tower.
Great view and a nice camp site. I stayed here in July. No bugs and nice and cool when the sun went down. Plus there is no easy way to get there, so no riff raff.
